Exhibition at Shionoe Art Museum

Even if it is already began I finally got a bit of time to give some news about it and some photos too. so from November 14 to December 12 I'm holding this exhibition at Shionoe art museum under the title "Inside".
This time I'm presenting an installation made by ropes and bamboo. With only this two material I'm creating an huge object where the main point is to get involve or better "Inside" more with my own feelings and body rather then any previous concept or image. The result should be a pure communication between me and the materials it self for I want to see how deep I can harmonize myself whit them because I think that if I can do that I should be able to create naturally a beautiful (hopefully) object which could invite a person inside it to explore it.
Another important point to me is that the installation will be done during all this month in a way that the making it self is an experience for the visitors.
As always I try to do with my work I want the people not just see but I want them to touch it and experienced with as much sense is possible and in order to do so I strongly connected my installation with the workshop I'm holding every Sunday where who will joint it will be able to create his/her own works following my same guide lines and using the same materials .
In the same time see the quite inspirational place as the museum is, I took the chance again to exhibit Reborn even I wasn't so much to show again at first but then I thought that given a so much different situation and atmosphere probably was right to present it once more with some change.

Reborn at Zentzuji -Agu 2010-

After the "Art Cross" event at Shodoshima, I've got the chance to exhibit "Reborn" at a "Art at the Temple"'s group exhibition held inside the huge park of the Zentsuji Souhonzan temple.
This is a very ascent Buddhist temple ( the 75 th temple of Japan's famed pilgrimage of the 88 Sacred Temples of Shikoku) first built some 1000 years ago. inside his walls there are, among many others holy buildings and statues, a wooden 5story pagoda and two holy and immense camphor tree planted in the same time when the temple it self was built!!!.

I was quite satisfied see and feel the link between my work, that symbolized the concept of a rebirth and such high spiritual and powerful place, and the people came to see the exhibition seems to feel this connection too.

Dopo la mostra di gruppo all " Art Cross event " in Shodoshima lo scorso Marzo, ho avuto la possibilita` di ripresentare "Reborn" ad un altro evento d'arte: "Art in the Temple" tenutasi durante luglio-agosto nel grande parco del tempio di Zentsuji Souhonzan.
Questo e` un antico tempio buddista ( e` il settantacinquesimo degli ottantaotto templi che fanno parte del sentiero dei pellegrini di Shikoku) costruito la prima volta circa 1000 anni fa`.
Dentro le sue mura oltre ad altri sacri edifici e statue ci sono anche la pagoda a cinque piani e due immensi alberi di canfora coetanei del tempio stesso!!!
Sono stato soddisfatto nel poter vedere e sentire la connessione che c'era tra il mo lavoro che vuole simboleggiare il desiderio di rinascita ed un luogo cosi spirituale; altrettanto soddisfatto di constatare che non ero l'unico a sentire questa connessione.

the very last sculpturing day/ ultimo giorno di scolpire

After the inside has been completed the night before, now I could complete the outside"caressing" the surface with the chainsaw .

Dopo aver completato le parti interne la notte precedente, ora posso rifinire l'esterno "carezzando" la superfice con la motosega.

...and then the last assemblage and check...

... e poi l'ultimo assemblaggio e controllo...

....done it and everything went well and smooth. Next I had just to put on the truck, tied and cover all in case of rain.

...fatto anche questo e tutto e` andato bene e senza intoppi. Infine posso pensare a caricare sul camioncino, legare e coprire il tutto in caso di pioggia.

Around 9.00 pm. finally this too has be done. Next morning departure for Shodoshima, hoping the truck will hold till there!

Circa alle 9 di sera anche questo e` stato fatto. La mattina partenza per Shodoshima, sperando che il camioncino regga fino a li!

Finally on the ferry from Takamatzu to Shodoshima. The sky doesn't looks good and setting under the rain wouldn't be nice , however now there is not turning back!


Finalmente sul traghetto da Takamatsu a Shodoshima. Il cielo non ha un bell'aspetto e lavorare sotto la pioggia non sarebbe simpatico, comunque ora non si torna piu` indietro!





At Shodoshima a "welcome party" made by some of the "Art cross" staff with the men of a transportation company were waiting for me at port and soon we transfer the sculpture from my little truck to their big one with much relief of mine which was struggling under the 500 kg or more of the sculpture where it was suppose to carry a maximum load of 350 kg!

Al porto di Shodoshima mi aspettano e danno il benvenuto lo staff di "Art Cross" e gli uomini della ditta di trasporti che mi aiuteranno nel posizionamento della scultura. Subito la trasferiamo dal mio povero camioncino al loro camion con estremo solievo del primo che intrepido e` riuscito a portare questi 500kg, forse piu`, quando in teoria dovrebbe portarne massimo 350kg!

Then all together we move on the area were the event will take place. At first the locations seen weren't what I meant for the sculpture. Actually I was looking for a wood or a quite and natural spot.

Poi ci siamo spostati nell'area dell'evento e ho iniziato a cercare il posto migliore dove poter esporre il lavoro ma non ho trovato cio`che avevo in mente fin dall'inizio. La mia idea era di posizionare la scultura all'interno di un piccolo bosco o comunque uno spazio naturale e raccolto.

There wasn't any. In stead there was in the area an old Buddhist temple and it's keeper let me set my sculpture where ever I wanted and so I did. Surly the atmosphere have very little in commune with my original one anyway I was quite happy about this location seeing how the two elements ( temple and sculpture) blending together creating a quite interesting place.

Non c'era niete che ci si avvicinasse. Al suo posto ho trovato un antico tempio buddista il cui custode mi ha permesso di esporre il lavoro dove meglio credevo, vicino o addirittura dentro lo spazio del tempio e cosi` anche se e` cambiata l'atmosfera che intendevo ottenere devo dire che comunque il risultato creato dalla vicinanza di questi due elementi ( tempio e scultura) l'ho trovata comunque interessante.

Quindi abbiamo iniziato il posizionare la scultura di fronte al portone principale del tempio.

Everyone has been so kind and helpful that anything went smoothly so I have to thank them very much for this!!!

Tutti quanti sono stati molto gentili a mi hanno aiutato cosi bene che tutto e` stato sistemato perfettamente e velocemente. Devo quindi ringraziarli moltissimo per questo!

And finally after a month an half of working everything has been set perfectly and ready for the opening' event the next Saturday.

Finalmente, dopo un mese e mezzo di lavoro tutto e` stato sistemato ed e` pronto per l'inaugurazione dell'evento che avverra` il sabato sucessivo.

6th and last week/ Sesta ed ultima settimana

Few days left.
It seems that everything goes as intended.
At last remain to brought at 100% the inside and outside in size and shapes the whole sculpture and the small details too.




Solo pochi giorni rimangono.
Sembra che tutto proceda secondo quanto pianificato.
Ultimo rimane portare forme e dimensioni interne ed esterne ed i dettagli fino al 100% di rifinitura.

The lack of material in the joints' areas had forced me to add other wood there so I could hold them strongly and safely.

La mancanza di materiale nelle zone dei giunti mi ha costretto ad aggiungere nuovo legno in modo da poter attaccare e tenere con sicurezza i giunti alla scultura.

This was the joint' area I had cut entirely and made a new one. Now it has been attached and shaped as should it be at first!
There was still some crack in it but I filled up with thin plank of wood so in the end it should appear as a solid block.

Questa era la zona del giunto che ho tagliato via, rifatto e rimodellata completamente come avrebbe dovuto essere fin dall'inizio. Ci sono ancora alcune fessure ma con sottili inserzioni di legno il tutto dovrebbe presentarsi come un unico pezzo.

Checking last time if the joints fix in their places. They did pretty well.

Controllando un ultima volta se i giunti si incastrano nella rispettive sedi. Nessun problema.

Still there is the inside to be done properly by eliminate any bump or any thing could be uncomfortable or even dangerous. People who will go inside must not be scratch or pouch in anyway.

C'e` ancora la parte interna da dover essere rifinita eliminando bozze e qualsiasi altra cosa che renda l'interno scomodo o addirittura pericoloso. Le persone che vi entreranno non devono essere graffiate o punte in alcun modo.

The day is almost over but I'm still far to the end so now that the section are lighter and smaller I could move inside my lab where I can work as much and long as needed without annoying and waking the whole neighborhood!

Il giorno e` oramai alla fine ma io ho ancora molto da fare. Ora che le sezioni sono piu`leggere e piccole posso muoverle all'interno del laboratorio dove posso lavorare come e quanto e` necessario senza paura di infastidire e svegliare l'intero vicinato!
